Cover Note
A record-breaking extreme Meiyu rainfall occurred along the Yangtze River valley (YRV) in 2020, persisting from 11 June to 31 July with the largest amount and highest intensity since 1961. Causes of this extreme event are investigated by Wang et al. (2021) in this issue, from the perspective of water vapor flux convergence, dynamics and thermodynamics, as well as moisture origin and remote oceanic forcing.
