Abstract
The energy mechanisms responsible for the splitting and rebuilding of the 100 hPa polar vortex are studied. They are the energy transporting upwards of the wave with wavenumber 2 in the troposphere and the nonlinear interaction between waves. The former mechanism appears to play an important role in making the polar vortex splitting, and the latter is minor in this process. However,in the rebuilding of the polar vortex, the latter seems to be more important than the former.
